Damini- the Artisans of India is a movement started in 2001 by journalist and writer Parveen Sikkandar in Southern India to curb the exploitation of rural artisans by retail giants, middle men, fashion designers and corporate houses in the name of ethical business. Within a year this movement itself led her to establish Damini Artisans a brand that encourages craftsmen and self help groups to develop new products . Parveen strongly believes that only timely payment can encourage any artist and that’s why the company has the logo “100% paid”. Damini Artisans as a policy does not use pictures / write ups of craftsmen or women in poverty to sell its products.
